Frequently Asked Questions
What is up-lighting?
Up-lighting is used to bounce light off the ceiling and back down to the room, creating an elegant but vibrant atmosphere at your event. You can choose from over 16 million shades of colour to suit your every requirement. Not only this, you can also make changes to the lighting during different parts of the night so, for example, the cake cutting lights can be pink, for the first dance you can make it blue while the entrance can be coloured purple.
Should I have up-lighting at my function?
It is sometimes said that less is more; up-lighting is a subtle but effective way of creating a beautiful atmosphere. The up-lighters are placed all the way around your function hall with all wires neatly taped down. A tailored up-lighting solution can make a world of difference to your event. It is also said a picture paints a thousand words so please look through the photos in our Gallery to see just how much of an impact up-lighting can make.
Can up-lighting only be used in particular halls or at particular functions?
All our equipment is PAT tested and meets the UK standard of electrical safety. We also have public liability insurance of £5,000,000, allowing us to install up-lighting at any venue and any function. If you have particular concerns, we can conduct a site visit beforehand to examine the venue and address any issues.
What colours do you have?
You can choose from a selection of 16,777,216 different colours. Not only this, you can also make changes to the lighting during different parts of the night, allowing you to create the perfect atmosphere at each point in the evening.
Can I change my mind after the booking?
Absolutely. You can tell us your new requirements before the event or even on the day. The colour scheme can be changed using an easy-to-use controller, providing you with a flexible solution.
How many lights will I need?
This depends on the size of the room. We suggest a spacing of three meters between each unit for maximum effect. If your budget allows, we will usually offer to conduct a site visit to suggest the best amount, and talk you through the other services we can provide.
How much power will the lighting use?
A very small amount: Each LED unit uses around 20 watts (which is about 0.1 amp). This means that for even the largest of venues, when purely LED lighting is used, it will consume less than a third of the power a DJ or band would require. For larger scale events where high powered lighting is supplied, we will happily liaise with the venue about power requirements.
Are the lights child friendly?
Yes, As the units use LEDs, they do not heat up and therefore are not dangerous. Any non-LED lighting is used on stands, well away from reach.
Can the lights be used in marquees?
Yes. In fact, they are ideal for marquees as they do not heat up, and consume very little power.
How long does it take to set up?
It varies depending on the layout of your venue, but generally around two hours (if the venue is on a ground floor).
Can the lights be switched off easily in case my photographer needs his own lighting?
Yes. Lights can be switched off with an easy-to-use controller.
Will someone stay at my event to take care of the lighting?
We can arrange for a member of the Light Up My Event team to stay at your event. Alternatively, many clients prefer us to give the controller to the event manager or DJ to minimise the amount of people working in the venue.
Is there a minimum amount that I have to hire?
No. You can have as many or as few as you like, although we do have to cover our labour and travelling costs. Usually this means we will offer a base package or set a minimum order value to ensure that you are getting value for money!
What healthy and safety risks are there?
Light Up My Event has PAT tested all its equipment, ensuring that it meets the UK’s health and safety standards. Our LED lights do not heat up and therefore are very safe. Non-LED lights are kept out of reach so there is minimal risk of coming into contact with guests.
How can I add an extra-special touch?
Transform your venue to match a colour scheme of your choosing with our LED venue up-lighting service whilst keeping your guests of all ages entertained during the evening with our professional full-time mobile disco (based on 5 hours). As part of this package we provide 14 LED up-lighters which are low-heat, low-power units that can be set to any fixed colour(s) of your choice or, for a small additional programming fee, we are able to make the lighting slowly fade between your colours of choice before joining in as part of the disco lighting during the evening.
